A man aged 32 has been taken into custody by Hamilton police for the alleged sexual assault of a young individual deemed vulnerable. The authorities have levied various charges against the suspect. According to a recent press release issued on Tuesday, the Hamilton Police Human Trafficking Unit commenced an investigation on October 9 following a report of sexual assault by the young person.
The victim recounted being picked up by a man in a dark-colored vehicle at the intersection of Barton Street and Gage Avenue. Subsequently, the victim was reportedly coerced to consume an unidentified substance before the sexual assault occurred, as detailed by the police statement.
After conducting a thorough inquiry, law enforcement identified the 32-year-old Hamilton resident in question. Following his apprehension, a search warrant was executed at his place of residence, during which detectives seized BB guns and approximately 44 grams of methamphetamine.
In addition to the sexual assault charge, the man faces accusations of sexual interference, possession of a firearm, disguise with intent, administering a harmful substance, and making threats, among other offenses. Furthermore, the accused was issued a weapons prohibition order and instructed to maintain good conduct, resulting in additional charges of failure to comply, as reported by the police.
