Actor Nicholas Brendon, known for his role as Xander Harris on the television series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” has passed away at the age of 54. A statement released on his official Instagram page confirmed that Brendon died peacefully in his sleep due to natural causes.
The statement highlighted Brendon’s transition from acting to pursuing his passion in painting and art, emphasizing his creativity, sensitivity, and dedication to his craft. Brendon’s portrayal of Xander Harris, Buffy’s loyal and humorous friend, was a central part of the show’s success during its entire run from 1997 to 2003.
Co-stars from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Alyson Hannigan, Emma Caulfield, David Boreanaz, and Charisma Carpenter, paid tribute to Brendon following the news of his passing. Gellar, in an Instagram post, quoted a poignant scene between Brendon’s character and Dawn, played by the late Michelle Trachtenberg.
Apart from his role in “Buffy,” Brendon also featured in the series “Criminal Minds” as Kevin Lynch and made appearances in “Private Practice” and “Kitchen Confidential.” Throughout his career, Brendon openly discussed his battles with addiction and mental health challenges, including multiple arrests related to domestic incidents.
